Cat Flea & Worm Treatment NZ
Shop cat flea and worm treatments in NZ. Bravecto Plus, NexGard Spectra, Advocate, Moxiclear and more — spot-on treatments covering fleas, ticks and worms for cats of all sizes. No prescription needed.
Fleas are a year-round problem for New Zealand cats. Our mild climate means flea populations stay active well beyond summer, and cats that spend any time outdoors — or live with pets that do — are regularly exposed. Left untreated, fleas cause itching, skin irritation, and flea allergy dermatitis, and can transmit tapeworms. Even strictly indoor cats are not fully protected, as fleas can enter the home on clothing or other animals.
At Pet Supply, we stock the most trusted vet-recommended cat flea treatments available in New Zealand, including Bravecto Plus, NexGard Spectra, Advocate, Moxiclear, Frontline Plus, and more. All treatments are spot-on applications — there are no oral chews for cats — and several cover fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms in a single monthly or 3-monthly dose. One important note: never use dog flea treatments on cats. Many contain permethrin, which is highly toxic to cats.

How to choose the right treatment for your cat
You want flea and worm cover in one product
Bravecto Plus covers fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms in a single 3-month spot-on. NexGard Spectra, Advocate, and Moxiclear cover fleas and worms monthly — no separate wormer needed.
You want the least frequent dosing
Bravecto Plus is dosed every 3 months — the least frequent option for cats. The Seresto collar lasts 8 months but covers fleas and ticks only, so a separate wormer is still needed.
Your cat also needs tick protection
Bravecto Plus, NexGard Spectra, Revolution Plus, Frontline Plus, and the Seresto collar all offer tick coverage. Advocate and Moxiclear do not cover ticks.
You have a kitten
Most treatments are safe from 8–9 weeks of age and a minimum weight of around 0.8–1 kg depending on the product. Always check the label. NexGard Spectra is approved from 9 weeks and is a popular choice as it also covers intestinal worms common in young cats.
Your cat is strictly indoors
Indoor cats still need regular flea treatment — fleas can enter the home on clothing, shoes, or other pets. A monthly spot-on or 3-monthly Bravecto Plus keeps them protected without the need for tick coverage if they never go outside.
You want flea-only protection at a lower price
Advantage kills fleas on contact without your cat needing to be bitten first. It's a straightforward monthly spot-on for cats that don't need worm or tick cover included. A separate wormer such as Drontal should be used every 3 months alongside it.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I treat my cat for fleas?
Monthly treatments need to be applied every 28–30 days. Bravecto Plus is the exception — it is dosed every 3 months. Year-round treatment is recommended in New Zealand, where fleas remain active in the warmer months and can persist indoors throughout winter.
Do indoor cats need flea treatment?
Yes. Fleas can be carried into the home on clothing, shoes, or other pets, and flea eggs can persist in carpet and soft furnishings for months. Indoor cats are at lower risk than outdoor cats, but regular treatment is still recommended by vets.
Can I use dog flea treatment on my cat?
No — never. Many dog flea treatments contain permethrin, which is highly toxic to cats and can be fatal even in small amounts. Always use a product specifically labelled for cats. If a dog in your household has been treated with a permethrin-containing product, keep your cat away until the product has fully dried.
Does my cat need a separate wormer?
Not if you use an all-in-one product. Bravecto Plus, NexGard Spectra, Advocate, and Moxiclear all cover intestinal worms in a single dose. If you use a flea-only product like Advantage or Frontline Plus, you will need to add a separate wormer such as Drontal every 3 months.
What is the difference between Bravecto Plus and NexGard Spectra for cats?
Both are all-in-one spot-on treatments covering fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms. The key difference is duration: Bravecto Plus is dosed every 3 months, while NexGard Spectra is monthly. Bravecto Plus also covers heartworm. If you prefer less frequent treatment, Bravecto Plus is the stronger option.
What age can kittens start flea treatment?
Most treatments are approved from 8–9 weeks of age and a minimum weight of around 0.8–1 kg. Always check the product label. NexGard Spectra is approved from 9 weeks and is commonly recommended for kittens as it also treats the intestinal worms young cats often carry.
How quickly does cat flea treatment work?
NexGard Spectra begins killing fleas within 6 hours of application. Bravecto Plus kills fleas within 12 hours. Advantage kills fleas on contact — they do not need to bite your cat for the treatment to work, which is useful for cats with flea allergy dermatitis.
Can my cat be bathed after a spot-on treatment?
Most spot-on treatments recommend keeping your cat dry for 24–48 hours after application. After that they are water-resistant. However, frequent bathing can reduce effectiveness over time, so avoid washing the application area unnecessarily.
Do I need a vet prescription for these products?
No. All products in our range are available over the counter in New Zealand without a prescription and are approved for sale under NZ regulations.
What if I miss a dose?
Apply the treatment as soon as you remember, then reset your schedule from that new date. A gap leaves your cat temporarily unprotected, particularly if they spend time outdoors or live with other pets.
